Maintaining International Law: Judge Hilary Charlesworth
6:00 pm, Tuesday, 13 October, NSW Teachers Federation Conference Centre, 37 Reservoir St, Surry Hills + live stream
Judge Hilary Charlesworth - one of only three Australians ever elected as a permanent member of the International Court of Justice, and the first Australian woman to hold the seat - will speak on the fundamental need to uphold the principles of international law at a time when international law is facing an unprecedented crisis. She will be interviewed by Professor Des Manderson of ANU Law School, in conversation with Professors Emily Crawford of Sydney Law School and Professor Catherine Renshaw, Dean of Western Sydney University School of Law. Amongst many things, the seminar will examine the Australian Parliament's role in protecting Australia's long-standing commitments to international law.
Doors open at 5:30 pm for a 6:00 pm start. After the event, please join us for a complimentary light supper with Professors Manderson, Crawford and Renshaw.
