RSVP: Kids Need Better (Indigenous Youth Justice) workshop in Darwin

Australia’s youth detention system is in crisis. Children as young as 10 are being locked away and subjected to spithoods, solitary confinement, police cages and adult watch houses. Prison harms children, while community-led solutions have turned children’s lives around by addressing poverty, disability and homelessness. The best way to support troubled kids is through community-led programs and making sure everyone’s basic needs are met.

Amnesty has just launched our refreshed Indigenous Youth Justice campaign: Kids Need Better. The NT is one of the focus states of this campaign, and we would love to hear local perspectives.

What to expect:

  • Join Shivani and Rach from Amnesty for a workshop where we will brainstorm campaigning action ideas for the Kids Need Better campaign that could work in the NT, map out First Nations communities and partners that we can work with in the local area, and provide an opportunity for likeminded folk to join this campaign.
  • This is an in-person event. Please arrive at 11am for a prompt start at 11.30am.
